About the Journal

Tezahur: Journal of Philosophy and Religious Studies adopts the concept it is named after as a research program. Tezahur, a Turkish term derived from the Arabic root z-h-r, names the coming into appearance of religion in human life. Faith becomes manifest in thought as concept and argument, in experience as lived awareness, and in practice as worship and ritual. Bridging the concepts of tajalli and zuhur in the kalam and Sufi traditions with the concept of appearance in contemporary phenomenology, the journal's name also summarizes its editorial line. The journal aims to provide a venue for philosophical studies that approach religion not merely as a set of beliefs but as a whole that comes into appearance in its intellectual, experiential, and practical dimensions.

Within this framework, the journal welcomes original research articles in the following areas: philosophy of religion in both the analytic and continental traditions, the philosophical problems of Islamic philosophy and kalam, philosophical theology, phenomenology of religion, the conceptual dimensions of Sufism and mysticism studies, and questions at the intersection of religion with ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics. The philosophy of religious practice, that is, the philosophical inquiry into worship, ritual, and religious life, is an area of special interest for the journal.

The criterion that defines the journal's editorial line is that the subject under discussion be tied to a conceptual inquiry. Studies of religion conducted through historical, philological, or social scientific methods are considered for publication insofar as they contribute to a philosophical problem. Works that remain at the level of mere description or survey fall outside the journal's scope.

The journal publishes articles in Turkish and English and appears twice a year, in June and December. Submissions are evaluated through a double-blind review process by at least two referees. Studies derived from graduate theses or from papers presented at scholarly meetings are accepted for consideration provided that this is clearly stated on the first page of the article. The journal follows an open access policy and charges no submission or processing fees.
